Fireworks + Food Trucks + A Crowd You’ll Definitely See Someone You Know In

We gotta get this one out of the way first. Yes, there are fireworks this week. Yes, there will be food trucks (more on that later). And yes, there will be someone from your high school that you’ll accidentally make eye contact with from across the park.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go support our community.

Fireworks launch around 9:30 PM. Food trucks arrive earlier with the beer garden. Bring your folding chair, bug spray, and at least one patient person to save your spot.

📍Lowell Park
🗓️ Thursday, July 4

Tom’s Smokehouse

Tom’s is one of the food trucks that’ll be at the fireworks. It’s very good, Texas-inspired barbecue. They smoke their meat low and slow and are the type of people you want to support (read more about that here). Their Texas Twinkies (bacon-wrapped, smoked jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cheese) can’t be skipped.

They’ll be at Lowell Park for the Fourth, and will be celebrating their 1-year anniversary at Lion’s Tail Brewing on July 12.

They’re bringing:

  • The full menu

  • Texas Twinkies (obviously)

  • Banana pudding

  • And the launch of their new peach cobbler, which they’ve apparently been perfecting in secret.

Where to Buy Meats Worth Grilling: Robert’s Specialty Meats

If you’re skipping the park crowd and firing up the grill at home this weekend, do not settle for a soggy supermarket 12-pack of hot dogs.

Head to Robert’s Specialty Meats, the best spot in town for high-quality, locally butchered cuts. Whether you’re looking for marinated chicken breasts, pre-seasoned ribs on a stick, ribeyes, or their famous “Bacon Bomb”, Robert’s has been crushing it for over a decade. Plus, every time you leave your shirt smells like smoked meats, which makes you even hungrier to start grilling. That’s how they get ya.

📍Sunset Drive, Waukesha
💡 Pro tip: Call ahead if you're picking up on a holiday weekend. They get busy.

🚶‍♂️ Take the Nagawaukee Trail — End at a Beach and Pretend You're on Vacation

Most trails don’t end with a beach and a playground. This one does. The Nagawaukee Trail is paved, shaded, and peaceful, and there’s a beach at the end, so you can technically call this a day trip.

Bring snacks. Bring a swimsuit. Bring the kids. Or don’t — and bring a book instead.

Summer Blends Is Back — Acai Bowls

If you remember Summer Blends from last summer, they’re back! If not, it's a seasonal smoothie + acai bowl shack with actual fruit and toppings you’ll want to Instagram (but won’t because you already started eating it).

They just reopened and are open daily 9-5, the perfect summer treat on a hot day.
