WAUKESHA LOCAL | WEEKLY ROUNDUP
WAUKESHA LOCAL | WEEKLY ROUNDUP
Supporting small business. Strengthening community. One local stop at a time.
Week of May 29th
Every Thursday you can expect to learn about local events in the area, interesting dishes you may not have tried, and community happenings that you might want to support. Let’s jump right in.
Here are 5 locally-owned and run events you can support this weekend:
1. Tacofest hosted by The Tap Yard at Minooka Park.
5th Annual TacoFest is Sunday, June 1st from 12-6pm at Minooka Park. The taco trucks scheduled to appear are:
Ochos Mexican Grill
Phoenix Mobile Grill
Mexi-Cali Grill
Romeros Taco Truck
Cinco Lokos
TroubleMaker’s Cocina
Chuchos Red Tacos
Beto’s Potatoes and tacos
Pina Mexican Eats
Guanajuato Mix
This year’s Tacofest highlights some of the most consistent and community-minded vendors around, and The Tap Yard will have these brews available. We suggest anything from Central Waters out of Amherst, WI to drink, and trying an assortment of different items from each vendor.
Some of our favorites include the Korean BBQ tacos from Phoenix Mobile Grill - shredded beef with homemade Korean bbq sauce, an asian slaw, and sriracha mayo - and the Birria Burrito from Guanajuato Mix (with consome). Grab a beer, bring a friend, and keep your dollars in the local economy.

2. Hike the Discovery Trail at Retzer Nature Center
If you want to stay away from the crowds and enjoy a free activity owned and operated by Waukesha County Parks, the Retzer Nature Center is a prime example of preserving our local environment while providing space for families and individuals to disconnect from screens and reconnect with nature! The Discovery Trail is accessible, educational with various “Exploration Stations”, and a great way to engage with the land we call home.

3. Copilot Coffee – New Location Now Open
Copilot recently moved 1 block away from their old location downtown (where Roots used to be… and Sprizzos if you’ve been around awhile) to the window-covered corner at the 5 point intersection. We love Copilot, and want to see them break the curse of that 5 points spot. They’ve done a great job making the space feel like a cozy coffee shop.
We suggest an iced vanilla latte with oat milk, a matcha, or any of their specialty drinks. Grab it and walk around downtown, or sit down with any of their delicious sandwiches.
4. Wholly Cow Frozen Custard – Delafield, WI (Closed Sundays)
The iconic Wholly Cow in Delafield is under new ownership as of last year, but they’re still out there serving delicious custard, burgers, fries, and cheese curds! After a 30-year legacy from the previous owners, we hope you’ll consider supporting Wholly Cow this summer to keep it a family favorite for everyone who grew up going there.

5. Children’s Orchard – Customer Appreciation Event
A locally-owned resale shop with a strong commitment to sustainability and family budgeting, Children’s Orchard is hosting their Customer Appreciation Event on May 31st. Expect discounted clothing and toys, free kids’ activities, Vocado MKE Food Truck, and a chance to support a business that keeps useful goods out of landfills and in our community.

BONUS: Pewaukee Lake Ski Show Starts Thursday
A community tradition that showcases local talent and brings people together, the Pewaukee Water Ski Club’s Thursday night shows are back. Free, open to the public, and worth the drive. Supporting local isn’t just about shopping it’s also about showing up for people who work hard to keep culture and community alive.

WAUKESHA LOCAL exists to support the people and businesses that make this place unique.
Chain stores don’t need more exposure but our neighbors do. Let’s shop small, stay informed, and continue building the community we all want to live in.
Want your event or business featured? Send us the details. We prioritize locally-owned, locally-run.
